UGWUANYI VISITS STATE SECRETARIAT SITE IN NSUKKA (BY WORDSWORTH)



Wednesday, October 13 2019: Enugu State Governor, HE Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi went on an inspection tour of the site of the State Government Secretariat Annex (Block A) under construction in Ede-Oballa, Nsukka Local Government Area. 

Phase one of the construction will cost N418.649 million, as announced in April by Mr Gilbert Nnaji, the State Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure. The secretariat will have 27 offices and would be equipped with modern facilities as one of the legacy projects of the present administration.

EID-EL-MAULUD: GOVERNOR UGWUANYI FELICITATES WITH MUSLIM FAITHFUL




As Muslims all over the world mark Eid el Maulud, in commemoration of the birthday of Prophet Muhammad PBUH, goodwill messages have continued to pour in from leaders across the country.
The Executive Governor of Enugu State, H.E Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi has stated that for there to be sustainable peace, unity and progress, Nigerians must remain prayerful. He made the call in a goodwill message he sent to President Muhammadu Buhari and other Muslim faithful. He noted that Eid el Maulud is a remarkable landmark because its very ethos was a catalyst for the virtues of faith, sacrifice, obedience, love, tolerance, charity and peaceful coexistence - virtues which are at the core of Prophet Muhammad's actions and teachings. 
Governor Ugwuanyi, while wishing Nigerians a peaceful and pleasant celebration, emphasized that for the hopes and dreams of Nigeria's founding fathers to bear tangible fruit, collective faith in God and sustained prayers for peace, unity and progress of the country remain the ultimate goal. 









ENUGU STATE GOVERNMENT EMBARKS ON IMPROVED HEALTHCARE DELIVERY SERVICES


The government of Enugu State has made it known that it plans to staff its district hospitals with qualified consultants and specialists. This is in furtherance to the government's desire to improve healthcare delivery across every nook and cranny of the State. Enugu State Commissioner for health, Dr Fintan Ekochin made this revelation in the course of an inspection tour of district hospital facilities in Enugu North Senatorial Zone.
Some of the hospitals inspected by Dr Ekochin include the District Hospital in Enugu-Ezike, the District Hospital in Nsukka, and the on-going United Bank for Africa (UBA) sponsored College Hospital located in the confines Nsukka GRA., and which the commissioner gave a clean bill of health to continue to provide medical services. The College Hospital is part of UBA's Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives, and the commissioner gave the firm assurance that the Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi led administration is poised to elevate healthcare provision in the State to the highest standards. The commissioner urged the medical doctors in the Nsukka and Igbo-Eze district hospitals to ensure that saving lives remains top priority. He stated that the specialists to be deployed to the hospitals will be availed of Infrastructure and modern equipment to carry out their work. He expressed gratitude to UBA for embarking on the CSR, stressing that upon completion, the College Hospital would have a full range of medical equipment and manpower to serve its purpose and complement what Nsukka district hospital offers currently. 
While maintaining that Enugu State Government has the manpower and facilities to address any medical issues in the area, he urged the staff to give urgent feedback for the replacement of new apparatus without delay. 
According to him, the Governor is giving great attention to healthcare especially the free maternal and infant healthcare services currently running in the state.
Earlier, Dr. Anthony Agu, the chief medical officer in charge of Nsukka district hospital thanked the state government for the equipment and drugs regularly provided for the hospital

GOVERNOR UGWUANYI ATTENDS DAUGHTERS OF DIVINE LOVE GOLDEN JUBILEE CELEBRATIONS







The Executive Governor of Enugu State, H.E  Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, was a special guest today as the Congregation of the Daughters of Divine Love (DDL) continued with activities marking its Golden Jubilee anniversary celebrations. The well-attended event took place at the Sacred Heart Chapel, Abakpa Nike, Enugu, and had religious and lay personages who thronged the venue starting from early in the day. 

Among the dignitaries who witnessed today's festivities include His Eminence, John Cardinal Onaiyekan (Bishop of Abuja Archdiocese), Most Rev Dr Callistus Onaga (Bishop of Enugu diocese), among other Bishops and priests. Also present was Mr Peter Obi, former governor of Anambra State, and vice-presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party in the February general elections. 

It will be recalled that on the 15th of December 2018, Governor Ugwuanyi graced the colourful Golden Jubilee Musical Festival/Christmas Carol of the Congregation of the Daughters of Divine Love, held at the same Abakpa Nike venue. At that occasion, the governor was commended by the DDL family for what the Mother-General, Anastasia Dike, described as the "divine tranquility in the State".

The Congregation of the Daughters of Divine Love was founded on the 16th of July, 1969, in Ukpor Anambra State, by Most Rev Dr Godfrey Mary Paul Okoye CSSp.

GOVERNOR UGWUANYI URGES ALERTNESS AS CHRISTMAS BECKONS

With less than a few weeks to Christmas, Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State has reminded the chairmen of the 17 Local Government Areas in the State of the need for increased alertness so as to ensure security of life and property during the festivities. The Governor extended the same charge to the Nigeria Police Force and other relevant security stakeholders in the State. 

The information was contained in a press statement released by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Mr. Chuks Ugwoke. Governor Ugwuanyi also enjoined the Neighbourhood Watch teams and Forest Guards to collaborate with other parties in safeguarding lives and property across the State. 

The Governor further called on the residents of the state to "remain peaceful and law-abiding in their activities during the Christmas season and at all times".
He, therefore, reassured the people of the State that his administration remains committed towards ensuring a crime-free yuletide celebration in the state in line with her enviable status as one of the safest and most peaceful states in the country. 

BRITISH HIGH COMMISSIONER SAYS ENUGU IS "A VERY LOVELY STATE"

The warm, welcome ambience of the Enugu State Government House played host to the British High Commissioner to Nigeria, Catriona Laing and her entourage, as Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi received them in audience. 

Top on the agenda for the day was how to bolster the existing socio-economic relationship between Enugu State and the United Kingdom. The High Commissioner who had productive exchanges with Governor Ugwuanyi in this regard described Enugu State as "a very lovely state".

AVIATION MINISTER HAILS UGWUANYI, SAYS ENUGU AIRPORT REHABILITATION ON COURSE




On Thursday (November 9, 2019), the Honourable Minister for Aviation, Mr Hadi Sirika, paid a visit to the Akanu Ibiam International Airport Enugu, in the company of the Managing Director of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), Captain Hamisu Yadudu, the Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Aviation, Hon Nnoli Nnaji, and other dignitaries. Mr Sirika announced that the Federal Government has mobilized the contractor (PW) handling the reconstruction and rehabilitation of the runway and other facilities in the airport to the site, in preparation for the commencement of work. The announcement was made after a meeting with  the Governor of Enugu State, Mr Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi.



It will be recalled that the Enugu airport was closed barely three months ago for the repairs of the runway and other renovations, following concerns raised about the safety of lives and property, and the minister said they were in Enugu to interact with the contractor “to see the level of preparation for the work and review the programme to ensure that he delivers the runway within the time we agreed”.

Reconfirming that the airport will be reopened before Easter, Senator Sirika commended Gov Ugwuanyi for “the tremendous support, a show of concern and participation in what we are doing to deliver this airport”. According to him: “He (Ugwuanyi) has done everything we have asked the state government to do. We commend him also for those tough decisions that he took in the overriding public interest. I think he is bold enough, courageous enough and his show of support and love for his people cannot be quantified”.
Senator Sirika, who disclosed that the Federal Government is committed to ensuring that the Enugu Airport “will be the best airport in the country” after the rehabilitation, added that “it will be the most efficient and most modernized airport”.

ENUGU STATE GOVERNMENT SUSPENDS TWO TRADITIONAL RULERS








Today, November 8, 2019, the Enugu State Government announced the one-month suspension (at the first instance) of the traditional rulers of Akwuke and Akwuke Uwani autonomous communities in Enugu South Local Government Area. The duo - HRH Igwe Bernard Nwoye and HRH Igwe Cyprian Ekwomchi - was suspended consequent upon allegations of misconduct by the indigenes of the two communities, leading to massive protests all the way to the Government House, Enugu.

Making the announcement, the Secretary to the Enugu State Government, Professor Simon Ortuanya, said that the decision was in the interest of peace, order and good governance, and was in compliance with Section 10(b) of the Traditional Rulers Law, Cap 151 Revised Laws of Enugu State, 2004.

The SSG also confirmed that an "Administrative Enquiry" has been set up to look into the allegations against the Traditional Rulers, and will be chaired by the State Commissioner for Chieftaincy Matters, Dr Charles Egumgbe.
